Global Ship Lease acquires three containerships

On 1 December 2025 Global Ship Lease announced the acquisition of three ECO-upgraded, 8,600 teu containerships, built in 2010/2011, for USD 90 m. These vessels come with charters attached to a leading liner company, expected to generate approximately USD 8 m in revenue at below-market rates with flexible duration, with the latest redeliveries anticipated by mid-2030. This acquisition will expand Global Ship Lease's fleet to 71 vessels, totalling 422,567 teu.

Executive chairman George Youroukos highlighted the operational flexibility and potential profitability of these ships, calling them "cash cows of the future". The company purchased them at a price close to that of a single charter-free vessel, enhancing its earnings outlook. By recycling capital from the earlier sale of older vessels, Global Ship Lease aims to strengthen its fleet with more modern and larger assets, ensuring sustainable value creation for shareholders over the long term.
