GPA continues upward trend


In May 2022, the Georgia Ports Authority (GPA) passed the threshold of almost 520,000 teu handled, breaking the previous record of 504,000 teu set in October 2021. Volumes rose by 8.5% or 40,800 teu compared to the same month in 2021.

 

The Garden City Terminal especially is handling more business currently than during the previous spike in the autumn of last year. GPA added 900,000 teu of annual capacity to the terminal in April. Another 300,000 teu are expected to become operative in July for a new total of more than 7 million teu of container handling space. In addition to the container trade, the port saw a 28% increase in breakbulk cargo, up almost 71,000 t. (sh)
