Green light for next call from Cork

The Belgian liner CLdN has started its second weekly sailing between the ports of Cork and Zeebrugge, complementing a first service, installed in May 2020.

"Considering Brexit and the modal shift from accompanied to unaccompanied shipping, having a second direct link between Cork and Zeebrugge will bypass the UK overland bridge," the shipping company said in a media release.

A spokesperson for the port of Cork added that "we've recently seen the spotlight shine on ro-ro freight since Brexit came into force; and CLdN has seen a shift to unaccompanied freight, which is clearly popular among logistic companies and advantageous."

The benefits of unaccompanied freight can bring a reduction in costs and greener freight movements by minimising the amount of time drivers are on the road and offering greater flexibility, depending on the type of shipment. (cd)
