Grimaldi expanding eco fleet

Grimaldi has taken delivery of the 'Grande Shanghai', the first of ten next-generation pure car and truck carriers (PCTCs) commissioned from China Merchants Heavy Industries Jiangsu.

With a capacity of 9,000 car equivalent units (ceu), the vessel halves fuel consumption compared to older ships and is 'ammonia-ready', enabling future conversion to zero-carbon fuel according to Grimaldi. Designed with Knud E. Hansen, the vessel measures 220 m by 38 m, has a gross tonnage of 91,611 and sails at up to 18 knots.

The ship features lithium batteries with 5 MWh capacity, shore power connections for cold ironing, 2,500 sqm of solar panels and smart ventilation systems. It carries multiple environmental class notations, including 'green plus' and 'green star 3'. (js)
