Grimaldi's next generation underway

Naples-headquartered Grimaldi Group continues to expand its fleet. The Group is investing more than USD 500 million in the construction of six new ro-ro multipurpose vessels to Hyundai Mipo Dockyard in Ulsan, South Korea.

With a length of 250 m, a beam of 38 m and a deadweight of approx. 45.700 t, the ships ordered will inaugurate a new class called "G5". This marks the next generation of vessels introduced after the series of "G4" ro-ro multipurpose units built by the same shipyard and entering service between 2014 and 2015.

The G5-class ships will be able to transport 4,700 linear meters of rolling freight, 2,500 ceu (car equivalent unit) and 2,000 teu, doubling the capacity of the G4-class vessels. Special technological care has been taken to bringing down fuel consumption and emissions, in accordance with Tier III and other regulations.

The six newbuilds are expected to be delivered between the first months of 2023 and the end of 2024, substituting older ships of the Group, and will be deployed for maritime transport services between North Europe and West Africa, particularly to Lagos, Nigeria. (cd)
