GW wins VCÖ mobility award

Gebrüder Weiss has received 2025's VCÖ mobility award for lower Austria, for its project 'GreenLine – nationwide decarbonisation in heavy general cargo transport'.

According to the company the initiative marks the first time that heavy-duty battery-electric trucks are deployed on fixed routes in Austria in daily operations. By the end of the year, the company aims to operate twelve new Mercedes 'eActros' trucks, each capable of transporting 22 t of payload.

To ensure operations, Gebrüder Weiss is installing 17 charging stations at its Austrian branches. These will be powered by renewable energy and the company’s own photovoltaic systems. With this investment, the logistics provider will reduce its annual CO₂ emissions by more than 4,400 t according to its own information.

The award was presented on 29 August in St Pölten to Jürgen Bauer, member of the management board at Gebrüder Weiss. (js)
