Hamburg highlights key market

Around 120 guests from business, politics and logistics attended Hamburg Port marketing’s reception in Stuttgart on 23 September. The event highlighted close economic relations between Baden-Württemberg and the port of Hamburg as the latter reports. Contributions from Hamburg state councillor Andreas Rieckhof, Baden-Württemberg’s economics ministry director-general Michael Kleiner and transport ministry director-general Berthold Frieß underlined the importance of Germany’s largest universal port for the export-driven southern state.

Baden-Württemberg is one of Hamburg’s most significant hinterland regions, with key industries such as engineering, chemicals, electronics and automotive strongly integrated in global trade according to the port of Hamburg. In 2024, about 380,000 teu were moved between Hamburg and Baden-Württemberg, 320,000 of them by rail. Axel Mattern, CEO of Hamburg Port Marketing, called Baden-Württemberg a key market for the port, while Kleiner noted that exports account for 37% of the state’s GDP, underlining the need for strong international links.
