HHLA rising

Terminal operator Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA) benefited from the extraordinary circumstances in deep sea shipping in the first nine months of 2021. A temporary peak in storage fees as a result of longer container dwell times at HHLA’s terminals in Hamburg also left its mark.

The HHLA Group’s revenue surged by 12.4%, passing the threshold of EUR 1 billion (in the same period in 2020: EUR 960 million). Ebit increased by a remarkable 51.3% year-on-year to EUR 162.1 million.

In the container segment, throughput at HHLA’s container terminals rose slightly by 1.6% to almost 5.2 million teu. While the lion's share was handled in Hamburg, up 1.3% against the same period last year, throughput volumes at the international container terminals in Odessa and Tallinn rose moderately by 4.8% to 453,000 teu (2020: 432,000 teu).

Finally, the HHLA recently raised its forecast in the current financial year with revenues to reach around EUR 1.41 billion. (sh)
