HHLA supports e-truck use

Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA) has introduced a pilot initiative allowing electric trucks to operate without fixed time slots at Hamburg's container terminals, a move to promote environmentally friendly supply chains. During the pilot phase until mid-2026, a new category in the slot booking system enables haulage companies to reserve slots without being tied to specific time windows, offering greater flexibility for charging and unloading within the booked day.

Jens Hansen, COO of HHLA, emphasised that this measure supports the shift to sustainable propulsion and complements the ongoing electrification efforts across the group, which aim to reduce CO2 emissions and provide future-proof logistics solutions. Since its inception in 2017, the slot booking system has continually evolved to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion, with HHLA's own electric trucks in subsidiaries Metrans and CTD exemplifying the commitment to sustainable transport. HHLA aims to be climate-neutral by 2040, and these new regulations intend to ease the transition for other companies towards emission-free logistics.
