Hudson Bay railway line reopening at end of November
Spring flooding in 2017 badly damaged the Hudson Bay rail line, Churchill's only land link to the rest of Canada. Since then, Churchill has only been accessible via air and sea.
The Canadian government has now announced that the rail line will resume freight and passenger services at the end of November. Furthermore, the country will invest more than CAD 3.8 million (EUR 2.54 million) in 40 projects that will, inter alia, help to offset the freight costs stemming from the line closure.
These investments, together with the resumption of rail services, will help revitalise local economies in Manitoba. (ben)
