Hupac breaks the 1 million barrier
In 2019, Swiss intermodal transport operator Hupac increased its traffic volumes by 13% compared to the previous year, leapfrogging the 1 million threshold for the first time. In transalpine traffic through Switzerland, its core business, the company carried 550,796 road consignments by rail, up 2.8% from 2018.
"Overall, demand was rather moderate in 2019. Volumes were fairly high in the first half of the year, while traffic decreased noticeably during the second half, due to prevailing market conditions," Hupac said.
On the other hand, the company moved 455,266 road consignments on the non-transalpine traffic routes, an upswing of 29.4%. Here, the volumes transported by the Hupac's group's new member ERS Railways with its services from the North Sea ports played a valuable part. (ben)
