ICS appoints Kazakos; Denholm to follow Grimaldi

At its AGM in Athens last week the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) confirmed the appointment of Thomas Kazakos as secretary general, succeeding Guy Platten.

Kazakos, formerly head of the Cyprus Chamber of Shipping, takes the helm as ICS addresses major global challenges. The board also named John Denholm, chair of J. & J. Denholm, as chairman designate to succeed Emanuele Grimaldi in 2026.

With global trade facing geopolitical pressure, ICS members stressed the need for strong, solution-focused leadership. Topics included new IMO GHG targets, supply chain resilience and seafarer welfare. Malta was confirmed as a full ICS member, reflecting its expanding maritime role. ICS reaffirmed its commitment to supporting shipping through decarbonisation, regulatory shifts and protectionist risks. (ah)
