India: barrelling along the Chennai-Kazipet corridor
Under the terms of the DoI, DB will carry out a feasibility study on Indian Railways’ existing Chennai-Kazipet corridor to see whether train speeds can be raised to 200 km/h. The costs will be equally shared.
The project will consist of three phases to be carried out over a 22 month period. The 643 km long Chennai-Kazipet corridor, with its 1,979 bridges, is fully electrified. The maximum sectional speed is currently 110 – 120 km/h. (ben)
