Industry pushing rail growth

The fifth edition of the conference 'Dialog.Schiene.Südwestfalen', held on 11 September at the Krombacher brewery in Kreuztal, saw around 150 representatives from industry, politics and logistics discuss the future of railfreight in the region.

According to the port of Hamburg, South Westphalia’s export-driven industry relies heavily on efficient, reliable and climate-friendly rail connections to remain competitive. The event was jointly organised by KSW Kreisbahn Siegen-Wittgenstein, Hafen Hamburg Marketing, DB Cargo, the BVL regional group for South Westphalia and the Siegen chamber of industry and commerce.

In a keynote address, Oliver Krischer, NRW’s minister for environment, nature conservation and transport, emphasised the importance of strengthening regional links and shifting traffic from road to rail. He also called for reform of track pricing, to unlock the full potential of railfreight as a growth market. (js)
