Investigation into Transaero bankruptcy

The Russian Foundation for Anticorruption Investigations has launched an investigation focused on uncovering corrupt or fraudulent schemes possibly involved in the bankruptcy of OJSC Transaero Airlines.

The country's first private company approved for commercial flights (1990) had grown to become Russia's second-largest airline, operating 98 aircraft in 2013, including full-freighters.

The carrier ceased operations in 2015 due to financial insolvency and was declared bankrupt in 2017. These procedures, marred by litigations and criminal cases against the company’s management - Olga Pleshakova (CEO from 2001 to 2015), her spouse Alexander Pleshakov (chairman of the board of directors), and his mother Tatiana Anodina (member of the board of directors), were extended in March for another six months.
