Italian carrier adds 20 e-locomotives to fleet
Polo Mercitalia, part of the Italian Ferrovie dello Stato, has signed an agreement with manufacturer Alstom for the acquisition of an additional 20 Traxx DC3 electric locomotives, named E.494. Deliveries are scheduled to start early 2024 and will be completed during that year. These new units are in addition to the contract signed by Mercitalia Rail in December 2017.
Alstom has already delivered the 40 Traxx DC3 locomotives mentioned in the original contract. They have been in service for more than three years now.
The fleet’s locomotives will be produced in the Alstom plant in Vado Ligure in Italy. The Traxx DC3 is the latest generation of high-power electric locomotives and provides higher load and traction capacity with lower energy consumption, Alstom said. (ben)
