K Line's new seven sisters

The Japanese carrier K Line plans to run its next generation of eight 7,000 units class car carriers fuelled by LNG from its FY/2023 until FY/2025. The liner's first LNG-fuelled vessel is the “Century Highway Green”, which was delivered in March 2021.

The car carriers will be built in Nihon Shipyard, Shin Kurushima Dockyard and China Merchants Jinling Shipyard in Nanjing, two vessels in each of the three shipyards.

These vessels are expected to reduce emissions of carbon dioxide by 25% to 30%, emissions of sulphur oxides (SOx) by almost 100%, and emissions of nitrogen oxides (NOx) by 80% to 90% with the use of LNG fuel and EGExhaust gas recirculation. (cd)
