Kalmar upgrades battery tech for e-fleet

Kalmar has unveiled its second-generation lithium-ion battery for electric counterbalanced units, including reachstackers, empty container handlers and forklifts.

The new battery improves energy capacity, thermal stability and operational predictability in various environments. It will initially be available in line with European standards, with versions that adhere to US and Chinese standards due to follow in 2026. Enhanced cell chemistry extends battery life, reduces replacement costs and supports better shift planning.

Kalmar electric reachstackers can now operate for up to ten hours in heavy-duty use. The improved thermal resilience also boosts safety, especially in hot climates.

“This launch marks a major step in fleet electrification without sacrificing performance,” said Peter Berndtson, vice-president for Kalmar’s counter-balanced product line.

Kalmar, headquartered in Helsinki, continues to drive sustainable innovation for the global cargo-handling sector.
