Largest LNG tanker newbuilding

The energy multinational Total intends to launch the largest ship to supply liquefied natural gas (LNG) built to date. With a capacity to load up to 18,600 cbm of LNG, the new tanker will be chartered by the Japanese shipping company Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL).

This ship will be built in the Chinese shipyards of Hudong-Zhonghua in Shanghai and will be 135 m long. It will be equipped with membrane tanks supplied by the French company GTTi. After its delivery in the course of 2020, it will operate by supplying LNG as fuel to container ships in the North Sea ports, including some 300,000 t per year over the next ten years for the nine mega containers of CMA CGM, which will cover the routes between the north of Europe and the Middle East.

This new vessel multiplies by 2.5 the capacity of the “Kairos”, of Nauticor, which has a capacity for 7,500 cbm and which began operating in the Baltic in December 2018. (fd)
