Linz back on track

Covid-19 left its mark: like most airports worldwide, Linz Airport in Upper Austria also felt the impact of the crisis on its air cargo business in 2020, particularly in the second quarter. However, by the middle of the year, the airport had achieved the turnaround.

From September, monthly tonnage already reached levels above those of the previous year. In Q4/2020, the amount of tonnages handled rose by 10.2% compared to Q4/2019. Total air freight volumes for 2020 climbed by 37.2% to 11,147 t. The addition of a new air link operated by Turkish Cargo in April played a major role in this improvement.

Over the last few years, Linz Airport has been working hard to attract new air cargo connections. Last autumn, the Turkish airline confirmed its confidence that the airport possessed the necessary expertise for such an expansion when it put Linz, alongside Oslo, on the top of the list of its feeder hubs for Guangzhou, the overall winner in its network.
