Minsk–Riga express railfreight service
An express freight train has completed its first trip between Minsk (Belarus) and Riga (Latvia) this week (wk 6). The train hauled 21 40 ft containers of mixed cargo from India.
The German logistics company RTSB and the Belarussian train operator Belintertrans were responsible for moving the containers from India.
Last October, Latvian Railways and Belarusian Railways agreed to jointly launch the Minsk–Riga express railfreight service for transporting cargo from one city to the other within 28 hours. The volume of freight transported between Latvia and Belarus on the Indra-Bigosava rail corridor increased by 13.9% to 7.7 million t in 2017. (ben)
