More additions to locomotive fleet
Three new Bombardier Traxx AC3 locomotives have reinforced the rail vehicle fleet operated by Wiener Lokalbahnen Cargo (WLC). The Austrian rail service provider will add up to six of the Traxx electric locomotives in all.
The new last mile locomotives have an innovative auxiliary diesel engine in addition to their traction batteries, and a remote control for shunting tasks. With these systems the units can smoothly switch from electric to diesel propulsion, and be efficiently deployed on non-electrified stretches of track.
WLC said that this is particularly advantageous in ports, terminals, storage areas and industrial facilities, among others. (ben)
