More air cargo power for Philadelphia

Another US airport is adding weight to its cargo business as Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) wants to expand its air cargo facility footprint by 550,000 sqm and almost triple the surface of its cargo building from 55,700 to 130,000 sqm.

The presentation of the "PHL Cargo Expansion Strategy" came in the same week that PHL announced a facility redevelopment partnership with Aviation Facilities Company and its new membership with The International Air Cargo Association (Tiaca).

A study commissioned in 2017 revealed that the airport captures only 9% of a potential USD 53 billion air cargo opportunity passing through its catchment area.

CEO Chellie Cameron: "This initiative will have a massive economic impact on the region and cement Philadelphia’s status as an intermodal logistics hub. (ah)
