More traffic for Cork

Naples-based Grimaldi Group in launching a twice weekly direct ro-ro service from the Irish port of Cork to Antwerp as from the second week of May 2021.

The vessel deployed is the Italian-flagged ro-ro unit "Eurocargo Bari", which has a length of 200 m, a beam of 26.5 m, a gross tonnage of 32,632 t and a service speed of 23 knots. She can transport 3,850 linear metres of rolling freight.

The Grimaldi Group has been calling to Cork on a regular basis for almost 25 years, and - through its subsidiary Euromed Ireland Logistics (EMIL) - the group runs its own ro-ro/multipurpose terminal at Ringaskiddy, Cork.

Conor Mowlds, chief commercial officer, Port of Cork: "The new service will also further strengthen Cork’s direct links with the heart of Europe, capitalising on the market’s growing use of the unaccompanied freight model, as shippers seek direct links to market rather than use the UK Land bridge.’ (cd)
