Multiple track projects to boost rail capacity
Canadian National Railway (CN) plans to invest CAD 340 million (EUR 222 million) across British Columbia (BC) to expand and strengthen its rail network throughout the Canadian province. The BC investments are part of CN’s record CAD 3.4 billion (EUR 2.2 billion) capital programme for 2018.
The BC expansion projects include the construction of four new train passing sidings between Prince Rupert and Jasper, Alberta; the extension of three existing passing sidings between Prince Rupert and Jasper; and a siding extension north of Kamloops on CN’s Vancouver - Edmonton corridor.
Furthermore, the railway will replace 185 km of rail and install more than 335,000 new railroad ties as part of a major maintenance project. (ben)
