Net leads zero-emission haul

New energy transport (Net), Windrose and Multiquip have completed Australia’s longest single-charge electric truck delivery, covering 480 km between Picton (80km south of Sydney) and Beresfield in New South Wales as Net reported. The 36 t journey demonstrated 'zero-emission' freight at diesel-comparable costs and 12% faster trip times according to the company. The trial forms part of an MoU between NET and Multiquip to integrate electric trucks into Multiquip’s supply chain.

"This  proves that it’s possible to do zero-emission road freight in a cost competitive way with diesel-based freight," said Net co-CEO Daniel Bleakley. The electric Windrose truck held highway speeds uphill, completing each leg 20 minutes faster than diesel vehicles as the company reported. Co-CEO Fredrik Pehrsson added electric trucks can match and even exceed diesel productivity. Multiquip’s compliance manager David Muir said the test makes his company "part of the future." (js)
