New brake discs to optimise rail transport
The Swedish railfreight operator, Green Cargo, is installing a new type of brake disc on six mail wagons. The equipment will be tested in winter, and if the test proves favourable, Green Cargo will equip more wagons with the new devices.
The new brake discs can be replaced when they break or wear out without having to dismantle the entire pair of wagon wheels as was the case with the former disc type. The freight railway reckons that the new brake disks, which have a longer life cycle, will boost wagon availability and reduce downtimes. (ben)
