New DC in SW England

Waitrose, a British supermarket chain, is making a multi-million GBP investment in a 360,000 sqft distribution centre in Bristol, to improve services in southwestern England. The retailer will open its first DC in the region at the end of 2026.

Waitrose recently also announced that it will open a convenience store in Bristol later this year, with a further new shop to open in Bristol in 2027.

The DC will be located in Mountpark’s ‘Bristol 360’ logistics site, which offers energy efficient and sustainable features, including 1,200 solar panels.

Waitrose estimates that the site will help it to eliminate 2,225 t of CO2 emissions a year, helping it meet its target of being net zero carbon by 2035 and fossil fuel free by 2030.

Waitrose currently uses four regional distribution sites in the UK, namely in Aylesford, Bracknell, Brinklow and Leyland. (gy)
