Northern African airlines order Airbus aircraft
At the recent Dubai Airshow 2013, the European airframe manufacturer Airbus received five firm orders from Qatar Airways Cargo (plus eight commitments) and one firm order with Etihad Airways for the versatile A330-200F, bringing the order and commitment total to14 orders valued at USD 3 billion.
Air Algérie also committed for three A330-200 passenger aircraft worth USD 648 million. The new aircraft will be deployed on medium and long haul routes from the Air Algérie hub in Algiers. Air Algérie has already ordered a total of five A330s, which have all been delivered to date. Another North African carrier, Libyan Wings, has signed a memorandum of understanding for three A350-900s and four A320neo's. The newly launched Tripoli-based airline will start operations for passenger charter and freight from the beginning of 2014.
