Only one FAA infrastructure grant for cargo facilities
Elaine L. Chao, the US transport department secretary, said that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will award USD 677 million in airport infrastructure grants, the first allotment of the total USD 3.18 billion in airport improvement programme (AIP) funding for airports across the country.
The 241 grants will fund 346 infrastructure projects that include runways, taxiways, aprons, and terminals.
The only project dedicated exclusively to the freight business is the expansion of the existing cargo facility at Chicago Rockford international airport (RFD) in Illinois. The centre, which helps move goods across the country, will receive USD 3.1 million. (ah)
