PANYNJ closes deal for JFK refurbishment

The port authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) has approved a lease deal with Aeroterm, the manager of Aero JFK II, for a new, around 35,000 sqm cargo handling facility at John F. Kennedy international airport (JFK).

The USD 70 million investment in the facility and a second, USD 62 million investment in taxiway upgrades represent the first phase of the modernization of air cargo operations at JFK.

Port authority executive director Rick Cotton said, "John F. Kennedy international airport has long been one of the nation's most important destinations for the movement of air cargo and we are taking concrete action to ensure that remains the case throughout the 21st century."

JFK handled roughly 1.3 million t of cargo in 2016, putting the airport in the USA's top seven airports. (ah)
