PCTC to boost East Asia–Northern Europe service

The Grimaldi Group has taken delivery of the "Grande Tianjin", the first of seven pure car and truck carriers (PCTCs) ordered from Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding.

The 9,241 ceu vessel, ammonia-ready and equipped for shore power, will enter service in mid-August on the East Asia–Northern Europe route, carrying its first 1,000 electric SUVs.

At 200 m long and 38 m wide, the ship can transport rolling cargo of up to 250 t and meets strict CO₂, NOx and SOx limits, cutting emissions per unit by up to 50% compared to earlier designs. The delivery marks SWS’s 600th vessel and deepens Grimaldi’s partnership with Leapmotor, which began in 2022. It is also the first of 17 ammonia-ready PCTCs due for delivery by 2027, aimed at expanding global coverage and improving operational efficiency.  (ah)
