Planned KV hub in Dortmund

Duisport, Captrain and Dortmunder Hafen have announced plans to build a new intermodal terminal in Dortmund’s Westfalenhütte logistics park, creating a hub for trailer handling in Germany’s Rhine-Ruhr region. The partners intend to form a joint venture, with Duisport and Captrain each holding 45% and Dortmunder Hafen 10%, pending regulatory approval. The 150,000 sqm site, owned by Dortmunder Eisenbahn, will feature four 400 m tracks, a gantry crane, reachstackers and parking for several hundred trailers as Duisport reported.

Construction is set to begin in late 2026, with completion expected by the end of 2027. The project will shift hundreds of daily truck movements from road to rail, cutting congestion and emissions according to Duisport. "I look forward to contributing our experience and expertise in Dortmund as well," said Duisport CEO Markus Bangen. Captrain CEO Henrik Würdemann added the terminal will make logistics more efficient and sustainable across the Rhine-Ruhr region. (js)
