Port of Rotterdam's biodiversity plan unveiled

The port of Rotterdam authority has unveiled its 'Nature Vision' 2025–2050, outlining plans for a nature-inclusive port where economic growth aims to support biodiversity in the Rhine–Meuse Delta. Developed with the Naturalis Biodiversity center, the strategy aligns with the port’s ambition to become a 'net positive port'. The port plans to embed nature and biodiversity in decision-making and future projects.

At the Maasvlakte Zuid rail yard, banks, amphibian ponds and bird breeding pontoons are being incorporated among others. "The Port of Rotterdam Authority recognises its responsibility to contribute to a better living and working environment for everyone in and around the port area," said Eric van der Schans, director of environmental management.
