Port of Switzerland stands its ground

No slump, just a "dip" in the goods flows: From January to September 2020 the Swiss Rhine Ports generated a turnover that was roughly 16% below the comparatively strong first nine months of 2019.

The Covid-19 pandemic led to declines in the first quarter and to some extent in the second quarter as well, but the main reason for this development was the fall in imports of mineral oil products – still the most important cargo segment.

This trade recorded a drop of 17% compared to 2019. The result in the container segment is about 10% below the same period last year. All in all, the Swiss Rhine Ports handled 4 million t of freight during the first three quarters of 2020, 730,000 t less than in the same period of 2019. In waterside container traffic, the Swiss Rhine Ports processed almost 83,300 teu. (cd)
