Production kick-off for first A330-800 parts
As Airbus prepares for the first flight of the A330-900 with a bellyhold capacity of 162.8 cbm, production of the second member of the A330neo family, the A330-800 (136 cbm), is well underway with the first parts advancing at Airbus sites throughout Europe.
These parts include the new increased-span wing now being equipped in Bremen (Germany), the new composite sharklets from Korean Air Aerospace Division, the fuselage sections (photo) from the Hamburg plant, the new titanium pylons from Toulouse (France) and the centre wing box from Nantes (France).
Production of A330-800 will continue towards the start of final assembly by the end of 2017. The first flight will take place in 2018. (ah)
