Rail hub in Zalaegerszeg to open in 2023

HHLA subsidiary Metrans is expanding its network. The first foundations for a new Metrans terminal were laid in Zalaegerszeg (Hungary) earlier this month.

The hub will be used for transport services along the Adriatic corridor and towards southern and south-eastern Europe. Metrans is investing around EUR 40 million in the project. The first trains are expected to arrive at the facility in 2023.

Regular block trains operated by Metrans connect Hungary, via Budapest and the Dunajska Streda in Slovakia, to Hamburg, Bremerhaven and Rotterdam on the North Sea and to Duisburg (Germany) and Trieste and Koper on the Adriatic. Metran’s entire European intermodal network now comprises 17 company-owned and other associated terminals. (ben)
