Rail innovation arrives in West Africa

In Abidjan, Sitrail has taken delivery a new tamping-levelling-lining machine worth 2 billion CFA francs (more than EUR 3 million) for maintenance on the railway between Côte d’Ivoire and Burkina Faso.

This innovation, designed by Plasser & Theurer in Austria and recently presented at the IAF in Germany, is essential for positioning rails correctly and detecting infrastructure failures to restore the best possible track parameters.

Sitrail is the Bolloré Transport & Logistics subsidiary operating the railways in Côte d'Ivoire and Burkina Faso. Sitarail carries an average of 200,000 passengers and 900,000 t of freight every year. (ben)
