Rhenus acquires WNL to establish network in South Africa

The Rhenus Group has taken over the freight forwarding and logistics specialist, World Net Logistics (WNL), headquartered in Johannesburg (South Africa).

The acquisition includes WNL in South Africa, and the national companies known as WNL Germany and WNL Asia with companies in Hong Kong, China, Malaysia, Taiwan, Thailand and Singapore.

WNT's core business activities are air and sea freight operations. One major focus lies in providing airfreight connections between South Africa and Germany, as well as maritime links between South Africa and China, Germany and the UK.

WNL, which has its own vehicle fleet for overland services and warehouse capacity, serves customers mainly from the automotive, electronics, health care, FCMG and retail sectors.

Rhenus board member Tobias Bartz says: "The takeover marks an important step for us in establishing a network in South Africa and other African countries. WNL’s presence in Asia and Europe also strengthens our network with additional intercontinental connections." (mw)
