Second of CMA CGM's new mega vessels enters into service
The French container shipping company CMA CGM has announced that the "CMA CGM Alexander von Humboldt", the second unit in the world's largest and state of the art containership series, began its first voyage from Busan (South Korea) on 19 April. Built by Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering in South Korea, this giant of the seas is 396 m long, 54 m wide and has a draft of 16 m. It sails under the UK flag. The vessel is the second of a series of three 16,000 teu vessels, all to be named after great explorers. CMA CGM will employ the vessel in its French Asia Line (FAL 1), which deploys the carrier's largest units and offers customers a fixed-day, weekly connection between Central and South China and Northern Europe.
