Self-driving trucks tested in Texas

International Motors has launched fleet trials of its second-generation autonomous trucks, in partnership with PlusAI.

As the company reported, the pilot project involves selected operators running 'International LT Series' tractors equipped with the 'S13 integrated powertrain' and PlusAI’s 'Superdrive' autonomous driving software along the I-35 corridor between Laredo and Dallas. Managed from International’s autonomous hub in San Antonio, the trials aim to test real-world freight applications.

The trucks feature factory-installed autonomous kits with lidar, imaging radar and cameras providing 360-degree vision. 'Superdrive', trained on real-world data, uses end-to-end AI models adaptable to different routes and conditions.

Tobias Glitterstam, chief strategy and transformation officer, said the programme demonstrates the commercial viability of autonomous freight, offering customers greater efficiency and safety. (js)
