Skulls instead of drugs
During a random check at Mexico's Querétaro airport on 30 December 2022, officials of the national security service came across a bizarre shipment. They became suspicious when X-rays were made of a package that was stored at a courier service and came from the state of Michoacán, notorious for its problems with violence.
But instead of drugs, weapons or cash, the X-rays showed strange outlines. When the package was opened, the officers discovered four human skulls wrapped in cling film and aluminium foil.
The consignment however did not include any documentation about the origin or a permit for the removal of human remains. Neither was it possible to determine whether the unusual goods were intended for medical purposes. (ah)
