Solarport to build PV plants in Duisburg

Solarport Duisburg, a joint venture between Duisport and the public utility Stadtwerke Duisburg, is building two large photovoltaic systems in Duisburg (Germany).

The 1.65 MW installation on Mercator Island will be on a new logistics hall, scheduled for completion next year. The second project, on Logport I in Rheinhausen, will add a 1.04 MW system to an existing hall, also due to go online in 2026. Both projects secured contracts in the context of the German network agency’s latest tender.

Solarport Duisburg, owned equally by the two partners, focuses on generating solar energy on roof areas in the port. The initiative aims to advance Duisburg’s path to climate neutrality, with further projects planned.

Its managing directors emphasised the use of combined expertise from both shareholders to accelerate implementation. Solarport pointed out that not all roofs are structurally suited for PV plants and that investments will be rolled out step by step.
