Substantial railfreight capacity expansion in China
A new train operating diagram has gone into force in China, according to the China Railways Corporation (CRC). The adjustment to the operating diagram will lead to an increase in the number of trains in service and raise freight transport capacities.
More express freight trains and bulk commodity through trains will be put into operation to provide better international logistics for the “belt and road”. Furthermore, the potential of coal transport capacity will also be exploited for major freight corridors, and 220 more pairs of freight trains, including 60 freight trains with a 10,000 t capacity, will go into service.
The implementation of these measures will allow China to step up the annual freight transport volume by 200 million t. (ben)
