Takeover in Switzerland

On 1 May 2022, Camion Transport (CT), a haulier headquartered in Wil in the eastern part of Switzerland, is taking over the transport operations of Willi Schärer Transport, which is based Pratteln near Basel.

Camion Transport is one of country’s largest transport and logistics companies, it currently employs 1,400 people across 14 locations, operates a fleet of 610 vehicles and processes an average of 7,500 consignments and logistics orders per day. With this acquisition, the family-owned company is further expanding its part-load and wagonload transport division.

Willi Schärer Transport, founded in 1961, is withdrawing completely from the "national freight transport" sector. The two companies have cooperated in the past, and there is a long-standing personal relationship between the owners.

The takeover includes the customer base from the part-load and wagonload sectors, as well as the crane orders and nine vehicles, the majority of which Camion Transport will base at the Basel branch next to the Wolf railfreight station.

The company is also offering continued employment to all employees to whom it attaches special importance. As examples of CT’s commitment, Monika Friedl, head of occupational health management (BGM) at CT mentions, among other things, "absence management with the option for a rest period or also preventive health measures".

CT was the first transport and logistics company in Switzerland to be awarded the "friendly work space" label in 2015, which the foundation Health Promotion Switzerland has already recertified twice in the last six years since then. (cd)
