Three new engines rejuvenate EGS rolling stock

The German railway company Eisenbahngesellschaft Potsdam (EGS) is purchasing three new Siemens locomotives of the Smartron type. The railfreight operator will deploy the new units in the German network from 2019 onwards. The engines will be configured exclusively for the German domestic market.

The three locos massively reduce the average age of EGP's rolling stock. The 5,600 kW Smartron engines use components that have proved their value in the Siemens Vectron unit. They have a maximum speed of 140 km/h.

The new units will enable EGS, which is a subsidiary of Enon, to run cost-efficient operations in Germany with a high degree of operating security, the company said. (ben)
