Thumbs up for new freight village in Augsburg region
The Upper Bavarian government has approved the construction of the new public Augsburg container station. The road/rail box handling freight village will be erected on a parcel of land in the German cites of Augsburg, Gersthofen and Neusäss, and is intended to relieve transport and environmental problems in the region.
The project encompasses the construction of access roads to the station, as well as roads within the freight centre. The local region’s only road/rail intermodal handling terminal to date is in Augsburg-Oberhausen, and it has been working to its capacity limit for years. (ben)
