Time limit for HGV parking in rest areas
The Danish government has decided to introduce a maximum 25 hour time limit for trucks parking at state-owned rest areas along the motorway network.
The scheme is intended to create better conditions and free up more capacity. At the same time, the initiative should help improve safety on access and exit roads to rest areas, where trucks often park illegally.
The government also pointed to the fact that by limiting HGV parking to a maximum of 25 hours, drivers will have more flexibility when taking their reduced weekly 24 hour rest. The restrictions will tackle the issue of prolonged stopovers. Rest areas are not intended for this purpose and are unsuitable. (ben)
