TMG: Missed warehouse potential

According to a study by TMG consultants, many industrial firms are missing key opportunities in warehouse digitalisation. The 'Transformation warehouse-management-system' report, presented at the 'BVL Supply Chain CX' in Berlin, shows that 95% of companies plan automation projects, yet often prioritise short-term rollouts over long-term transformation. As SAP WM nears its end of support, many replicate outdated structures instead of redesigning their processes.

TMG observed that limited market insight and conservative project methods are major barriers to future readiness. "Replacing SAP WM is far more than an IT upgrade – it’s a business transformation," said Benjamin Hölzle, director SCM & logistics at TMG consultants. The study found that 36% of respondents act mainly due to SAP R/3’s phase-out, while only a quarter use the change to optimise workflows and introduce new functions. (js)
