Trailer maker investing in digital factory
Schmitz Cargobull is to invest in augmenting its capacities. The vehicle manufacturer will plough EUR 100 million into the development of a digital and automated plant in Vreden (Germany) over the next few years.
The existing factory, which is the brand’s centre of expertise for box semi-trailers, has stepped up its production from 76 vehicles per day in August 2017 to currently more than 100 refrigerated vehicles at present.
The company’s plans to boost capacity in Panevezys (Lithuania) are progressing well, particularly in the foam production facilities for Ferroplast panels. Two additional production lines are due to begin operations at that site for the S.KO box semi-trailer, M.KO truck box body and M.KO assembly kits in October 2018. (ben)
